It is our mission at Ground Shaker to deliver excellent customer service & satisfaction at Ground Shaking Speed.
Ground Shaker was started originally in 2007 by Travis Kropp. Though he didn’t realize it at the time, it would grow a lot bigger than even he imagined. At the time, fresh out of college and looking for a job he struggled to find his place. Having no experience turning wrenches growing up and with his specialty being in accounting and business, he lacked the terminology most mechanics had jumping into the work force. But there was always one aspect he had that no one else around could match, he worked on high performance diesels with his friends.
Eventually he would leave it behind for a bit to go to work in the oilfield. He worked his way up from roustabout to engineer for United States Steel. He managed all rigs and pipelines in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays and was the go-to failure analysis field rep for the entire country. But his knack for wrenching never went away. While working at US Steel, his friend Shawn got him back into truck pulling. Shawn and his son, Aiden, had a super stock diesel 4×4 truck they pulled and Travis traveled around the country helping them when he could. As the oilfield cut back, some of Travis’s friend asked him if he would start a hot shot company. So, in 2013, Travis bought a couple ram 5500s and went to work.
As Ground Shaker grew, Travis knew eventually he would have to take it full time. Two 24/7 jobs could only last so long. Eventually the opportunity came up for him to leave US Steel and see how far he could take his dream. Managing a trucking company brought on its own set of challenges. Being 30 years old and going up against companies that had been doing it for decades, or companies that had already been established for years was the biggest challenge of all. Many of his competitors said he wouldn’t last and some even laughed in his face, but he pushed on. The lessons came fast and furious but Travis and his growing team took them on. Growing truck by truck, Ground Shaker’s presence became more and more well known. With the jump to Semi trucks and trailers, they puthier competitors on notice that they weren’t going anywhere.
But more trucks, trailers and drivers meant more wrench turning to keep them on the road. The crew did their best working on weekends to keep trucks moving but the bigger they got, the harder it was. The decision was made to get their own facility and hire their own mechanics. In 2017 Ground Shaker leased a new garage and started their own maintenance work. Bringing on mechanics, managers, and new equipment was a massive step but one that would pay off in the long run.
Ground Shaker Motorsports, LLC was born again, being the maintenance side of Ground Shaker Transport. Keeping things in house kept cost down allowing Transport to grow, but word got out quick that we could work on vehicles and soon customers were coming through the front door. The work was general maintenance and a lot of it was out there. Managers tried to balance the work to keep customers and transport on the road.
Life long friend Nate Wagner spear headed the transportation side. He managed all aspects with the dispatchers and other personnel. Nate came to Ground Shaker as a driver and moved up to manager so the trucking side was in good hands. Additional trucks and trailers each year grew Nate’s division in size rapidly. Nate shared Travis’s dream of building something that mattered. Every new customer was another challenge for him and every idea out of left field Travis had always kept him on his toes. Nate’s dedication grew transport bigger than Travis had imagined but motorsports was still in a grey area.
In 2021 Ground Shaker Motorsports bought Interstate Truck Center in muncy and moved its operations there. This was a piece of the puzzle they had been waiting for. With larger facilities, more general maintenance could be performed and a shift to aftermarket accessories could be performed. As changes in office personnel were performed to create the environment needed, eventually the stage was set.
In the spring of 2023, it was announced Motorsports would be taking on aftermarket work. With the closing of Apple Hill 4×4, the area lacked a shop with true aftermarket experience. Manager Jon Rishel was on board for the change. With the contacts Travis had in the aftermarket world, the product lines were easy to gain access too and were more in depth than any shop around. Ground Shaker also gained mechanics from the now closed Apple Hill 4×4 to keep those customers supported with aftermarket parts.
The plan was now complete. Ground Shaker had a thriving Transportation division with dozens of power units and now a growing multi million dollar aftermarket presence at the end of 2023. What started as a dream in 2007 as a side job helping friends with their vehicles had completed itself. Spanning products lines from Kelderman to Fisher Plows, the leading area Falken tire dealer to the only shop in the area with mechanics capable of handling engines over 3000hp.
There is still more to come though! With some of the top pulling teams in the country relying on Travis to help them track side, the high performance and aftermarket work will continue to grow! 2024 has a lot in store for Ground Shaker with big things already in the plans so watch and see what else we are going to be able to do!
